Move like water (open)

Skylar was not one to usually attend student oriented events, but she had giving Mystique her word she would attend. She saw her friend talking with the Grounds keeper and smiled and gave them both a Wave before looking for someone else she could talk to. She didn't want to stand there awkwardly. She smoothed out the red fabric of her dress when she felt someone else's presence.

Patrolling was boring, but it was a necessary job to do as chaperone. As long as the kids were well-behaved, maybe he could get away with slipping on his responsibilities a little. There had to be some leeway involved, right? It's not like he was the only pair of eyes in the gym!

Reed spotted a gorgeous woman and decided to approach her. He had to find out who it was! His eyes widened when it turned out to be Healer Ashton. Whoa...

"Hi, Skylar..." He gave her a toothy grin.

Skylar smiled when she saw that it was Reed, "Hello Reed. You look nice." She said, admiring his suit. He did clean up rather nicely, "How is your evening going?" She wondered if he had had to break up any fights or separate any couples who were getting a bit too intimate. The life of a chaperone.

"Thanks, you do as well, yeah!" Reed's attire wasn't too different from his very professional wear; he just knew he was going to change into more casual trousers once the dance was done for the staff afterparty. "It's been fine, so far. Didn't have to deal with any horniness! I consider that to be a success!"

Skylar laughed and shook her head, her hair flopping around her neck, "That is indeed a success. These teenagers, they act as if sex is the only thing in the world they care about. I had a poor girl crying in my office the other day because she feared she was pregnant." She sighed, remembering the young girl had only been 15.

"Man, that must've been tough to deal with! How often do you get those kinds of visits? I'm lucky that one of my students confides to me after hours as he knows I won't say a word to his family. I don't know how he trusted me so quickly as I only began teaching last month!"

One of the joys of being a cool professor.

"It is a nightmare. I have at least one or two visits like that a month or so. It's very scary for them, being so young." She said, she would hate to have to tell a young girl that she was to become a mother while still in school. Luckily she hasn't had to do such a thing yet. "Well it says that you are a good teacher. They trust you."

"Damn, we might have to use the PA system to remind them to use condoms..."

Imagine having to have class interrupted over such an announcement! Reed looked at their surroundings and urged Skylar to follow him to a slightly more secluded spot within the gym. Lowering his voice, he said, "You gotta keep this confidential! The student I'm referring to has told me he's in one of those situations... I can't imagine being that age and suddenly having new responsibilities, y'know?!"

"That might be of help. Safe sexy is definitely something we should encourage." When he gestured for her to follow him, she did so, making sure not to step on the hem of her dress. That would be a nightmare. Skylar's eyes widened when he told her that there was a teenage pregnancy at Hogwarts, "Oh no. That poor girl. Does she have help? Does this boy have any idea what she wants to do?"

Skylar frowned. She hated the idea of one of the students needing help and she can't because she has no idea who it is that needs help. But she also knew Reed probably would not give her the students name. Which she respected a bit, "Well. Hopefully one of these students come to me. I would love to be able to help them. Make sure all options are known and that this is what they truly want."

"I'll make sure to let him know," Reed responded rubbing his arm. "I don't know if he would take you up on that. He feels as if his every move is scrutinized, and I don't wanna contribute to that being his professor and all."

Skylar wondered on who he could possibly be talking about. She think she had an idea. But she wasn't going to voice that idea. "That is very admirable of you, Reed. You are a very good teacher. They must really like you."

"Yeah, I do my best despite the budget the department receives." Reed smiled at Skylar as she praised him for being a good teacher. Was he really that competent?! He was winging everything he did thus far! "You're a great healer too..!"

Ah, the budget. That was always a sore subject. It was never quite what was needed to guarantee the students the best education they could receive. "Well thank you." She said with a smile, "What got you into music?" She asked, wondering how he got to where he was.

'It's just something I always enjoyed with legends like Black Sabbath and whatnot. When I wasn't at Hogwarts, I'd follow all sorts of bands on MySpace as a lot of bands and singers got discovered on there. Very inspiring! The class was boring when I took it, but it didn't stop me from trying to pursue my dreams!"

Those dreams faltered as here he was chaperoning a dance.

"Black Sabbath? That sounds very dark." Skylar didn't listen to heavy music. She was amused as he spoke, "what is a myspace?" She has never heard of such a thing before. "Well I hear students talk about how much they enjoy your class. So you are obviously doing something right." She took a glass of punch from a near by tray and took a sip of it

"Not that heavy, Ozzy Osbourne's a bloody national treasure!" It made him realize how disconnected some of his colleagues were from muggle influences. Reed chuckled trying to figure out how to explain all of his references to Skylar. 'It was a social media site, dudette! Everyone left it for Facebook 10 years ago... Facebook is another social media site. Muggle stuff, yeah."

"They talk about me like that away from me?!" That was heartening to hear.

"If it is very big here I probably don't know it. I grew up in Italy." She wrinkled her brow as she tried to make sense of what he was saying, "Facebook? That sounds painful." But then he said it was a social media thing. She knew what that was, "Ah. I see." She smiled widely and nodded, "Yes. Especially Me Potter. He seems really keen on you. As is Ms Steele."

Was Black Sabbath only popular in the Anglosphere? Reed would have to look that up next time he was able to actually use his muggle phone. "Ah, yeah, James always finds an excuse to drop by my room to skip class or whatever kids are doing these days. One of my most attentive students. Abeline's pretty sweet, I don't know a lot about her, but she's always ready to learn."

"Kids these days. Don't appreciate the education they are being given. Hopefully they will appreciate it in the future." She said as she placed her now empty cup back on the tray and it refilled itself. "I do wish I could place that sort of impression on them. But I'm the healer. I'm who they come to when they're hurt or sick."

"It takes time for kids to realize that stuff. I know I didn't realize how hard my professors worked until I did student teaching!"

Oh, how he appreciated Professor Moonwell and her bosoms...

"I'm sure they appreciate what you do even if they don't say anything."

"Indeed it does. But it always happens eventually." She nodded in agreement, "I knew healers we're intelligent but I didn't know how much work goes into it. I can't imagine what the healers at St Mungo's go through." She smiled at him, "You are very sweet, you know this?"

Everything else he had heard went straight past his ears the moment Skylar referred to him as sweet.

"Heh, you are too..."

Scratching his neck, Reed smiled at her sheepishly. Healer Ashton was, indeed, a very sweet woman...

"Perhaps, forgive me if this is inappropriate, maybe we could get dinner together sometime. And you could tell me more about this Sabbath and other music you find it wresting." Skylar didn't see the problem with two co workers grabbing a bite to eat one night. And she did enjoy Reed's company. He was a funny man.
